The Crusaders came from behind once again to record a 33-24 victory over the Blues in Christchurch, while the Chiefs relied on two late tries to come away with a 27-14 win over the Rebels in Melbourne in Friday's second game.
The Bulls saw off a spirited Sunwolves side 34-21 at Loftus Versfeld on Friday night, and on Saturday morning the Hurricanes blew away the Highlanders 41-15 in a repeat of the 2015 final.
The Brumbies beat the Waratahs 28-12 in the only Australian derby of the weekend, and their compatriots the Reds were thrashed 44-14 by the Lions in Johannesburg after Quade Cooper was shown a red card.
The Sharks were unable to completely shake off the Kings as they edged their visitors 19-17 in Durban, while the Cheetahs were swept aside 41-14 by the Jaguares in Buenos Aires.
