Wasps 23-3 Gloucester: Dai Young dissatisfied despite win

Wasps coach Dai Young criticised his side's inability to take their chances, despite watching them ease to a 23-3 victory over Gloucester at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday.

Wasps managed a try in either half, one from Christian Wade and the other a penalty award, and relied on two conversions from Ruaridh Jackson and three long distance penalties from Elliot Daly for the remainder of their points.

Yet that was not enough to impress Young, who said: "We made seven line-breaks but didn't take enough of them.

"We are creating opportunities but our conversion rate isn't good enough.

"We would have taken this result before the game. We had the game won after 60 minutes but we didn't kick on.

"From the side we looked to have switched off in the last 20 minutes as we lacked accuracy and our discipline faded."

The Aviva Premiership game saw the dismissal of a player from each side, with Gloucester wing David Halaifonua and Wasps prop Lorenzo Cittadini both picking up a red card.

On Cittadini's dismissal, Young said: "I haven't had a good look at it. The referee had a good game and it's not my view that counts."

'No complaints'

David Humphreys conceded he had "no complaints" about the decision to send off his Tongan wing after a dangerous high challenge on Wasps lock Bradley Davies.

Gloucester's director of rugby was left to rue his team's failure to score over the 80 minutes, with their only points coming from Greig Laidlaw's 49th-minute penalty.

"We just couldn't score," he said. "We were on the other end of a penalty try award and should have definitely had one from a scrum in the second half but that wouldn't have changed the result.

"Large parts of our game were good. Our set piece was excellent and it's ironic that the parts we were good at last year fell away today whereas some of the weaker areas were strong.

"We stuck at it and kept working but we didn't kick well enough in the first half. They got into our half on only four occasions with Elliot Daly kicking three super goals and they scored a fantastic try."
