Wales will take no risks with Leigh Halfpenny and Dan Biggar when it comes to selecting the side to face Fiji at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Full-back Halfpenny suffered concussion during the 33-28 defeat to Australia last weekend, while fly-half Biggar has a groin injury.

They could both now sit out the clash with Fiji with a view to the matches against world champions New Zealand and South Africa in Cardiff later this month.

Assistant coach Rob Howley said: "Leigh is going through his concussion protocols and we are hopeful he will be able to train later in the week.

"If he is not right, it is the same sort of situation and principle we had last week with (centres) Jonathan Davies and Scott Williams. We have to put safety first and make sure this is the same situation with all our players.

"Dan has had a scan today (Monday), and we are waiting for the results. Hopefully, it will not be as bad as we expected, and hopefully he will play a part again.

"I would expect Dan to be available, if not for this weekend, then for the last two matches."

Changes

Head coach Warren Gatland is expected to make a number of changes from the side beaten by the Wallabies, with scrum-half Mike Phillips, fly-half Rhys Priestland, hooker Scott Baldwin and lock Bradley Davies among those who could gain call-ups.

Gloucester's 76 times-capped James Hook has been added to the back division options, and a bench role appears likely for him.

Like Australia, Fiji are also in Wales' World Cup pool next autumn and on their last Millennium Stadium visit four years ago, they claimed a 16-16 draw.

"Warren has mentioned there will be some changes," Howley added. "Whatever side is selected will be strong. There will be a couple of opportunities for players, but expect a strong side to be selected.

"The last time we played them with our near full-strength side we won 66-0 (2011 World Cup).

"The one thing that changed on that day was our attitude, and I have no doubt our attitude will be right on Saturday with people playing for World Cup places. It will be key on Saturday when you play against Fiji with their physicality."
