Saints boss delighted to have two top number tens in squad

Boss Jim Mallinder praised both his fly-halves after Shane Geraghty and Stephen Myler played their parts in Northampton's win over Wasps. Saints extended their unbeaten home run to 21 games as they edged a tight 14-9 victory over Wasps to stay hot on the heels of table toppers Leicester. England-capped Shane Geraghty started at number 10 and made the initial break which led to the only try of the match, which was scored by number eight Roger Wilson. Then Saxons number 10 Stephen Myler coolly struck the crucial 69th-minute drop-goal, five minutes after replacing Geraghty, to edge Northampton back in front before ensuring victory with an even later penalty. "It's brilliant that we've got two players like that," said Mallinder. "They do play differently. Shane is a massive threat with ball in hand and Stephen is very reliable, makes a lot of good decisions. "His drop-goal and then straight after that putting the ball into the corner was very good judgment.

Tough game

"It was a tough game. Wasps put a lot of pressure on us and it was a game we could easily have lost but we showed that desire and togetherness to do everything we possibly could to win. That came through in some of our defence." Northampton won the LV= Cup last weekend and are chasing a treble with the Premiership within their sights and also the Heineken Cup - they are England's last hope in that tournament. "We've just got to keep winning. If we can get a home semi-final in the play-offs that would be ideal for us," added Mallinder. Despite all his side's pressure, Tony Hanks, boss of fourth-placed Wasps, was left only with a losing bonus point. "We created plenty of opportunities and played some really good rugby but we do need to be more clinical and it's something we will keep working on," he said. "While we are proud of the performance we are disappointed to lose and we know we have a big four games coming up."
Wasps boost
Wasps will go into them boosted by the return of England flanker Tom Rees who came through the full 80 minutes in his first appearance of the season following two shoulder operations. Hanks added: "April was the last time he played and he was looking to the sideline, I think, after about 30 minutes - we just basically didn't look at him! "He was massive for us. Top-class players can do that and come back and make an impact and he'll just get better and better. "For Wasps supporters, for England supporters, for rugby people in general it was great to see Tom out there and it was definitely a massive lift to our guys. "It would have been quite easy to have given him an A League game or brought him off the bench or not given him back the captaincy but Tom Rees is important to us and he is our leader. "It was important he went straight back out and started for us and I can't speak highly enough of him."
