Redpath feeling the Blues

Cardiff boss Young delighted with fourth straight win over Gloucester

Gloucester coach Bryan Redpath couldn't hide his disappointment after seeing his side suffer a last-gasp defeat against Cardiff Blues. A Ceri Sweeney penalty in the closing seconds denied the Cherry and Whites a victory in their opening LV= Cup game of the season at Kingsholm. The home side had looked set to clinch their first win in five games when they edged back in front of a topsy-turvy clash thanks to Carlos Spencer's boot. However Sweeney held his nerve to kick the Blues to victory in a fixture that was a repeat of last year's final of the Anglo-Welsh competition.

Clear

"One of the things we talk about is if we create problems, we create points," a frustrated Redpath said. "When we go outside of that and go on our own agenda we cut our own throats and it has been happening too long. "When we are three points ahead our attention to detail around set piece and discipline in the contact area is not good enough. There is no excuse culture, you can't hide from it, it is as clear as night and day." Redpath was also scathing of his side's defending for Cardiff's two tries, adding: "We made two set-piece defensive errors. "We missed Rush for his try and for the second try off the base of the scrum we were just chasing across the field and the guy steps inside and scores, two individual errors and it cost us 14 points. "There was no trickery or technical movement it was just a one-on-one tackle."
Togetherness
Blues boss Dai Young was understandably delighted at seeing his team record a fourth straight win over Gloucester. Xavier Rush and Sam Norton-Knight scored the visitors' tries with Sweeney, who also slotted over four penalties, converting both. "To come to Kingsholm is always difficult, it was a tight game and it could have gone either way right up until the end. But from our point of view we are thrilled to come away from here with the right result," he said. "I thought we showed a real togetherness, a real commitment to the cause and a real determination to get that victory. "On a couple of occasions they got their noses in front but we stuck to our gameplan and got what we deserved."
