Ryan: We deserved more

Gloucester claim rare away win at Welford Road

Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan felt his side were worth more than their 30-17 victory over Leicester Tigers. Ryan's men became just the second visiting team to win at Welford Road in Leicester's last 40 home Guinness Premiership matches. Willie Walker justified his selection at fly-half with 20 points, while Leon Lloyd scored a fifth minute interception try against his former club. "Obviously I'm delighted because Welford Road is not an easy place to come to," said Ryan. "But I'm a little disappointed it wasn't more convincing. We missed two or three opportunities to make it more clear-cut and that would have removed the anxiety at the end of the match. "I thought we were very good in the first 20 minutes. We had some great scrum pressure and that created opportunities."

Not good enough

Temporary head coach Richard Cockerill made no excuses for Leicester's below-par performance. "We were not good enough and I will take the blame," he said. "It's hard to chase the game when you are playing a good team like Gloucester. "But we've won three out of our first four games and we will learn from this." Tigers' fly-half Andy Goode was replaced by Paul Burke at half-time after gifting Lloyd his interception try and missing three of four penalty attempts. "I took him off because he was playing so poorly and he said it was fair enough," added Cockerill.
