The Rec is rocking after Berne torches Sharks

Bath coach Steve Meehan is hoping his team can turn occasional purple patches into an 80-minute performance after their 21-19 win over Sale. A late penalty from Shaun Berne clinched victory for the hosts at The Recreation Ground, though the Sharks could have snatched it late had a Charlie Hodgson drop goal gone over. Meehan was delighted with some of the rugby played by Bath in the Guinness Premiership contest, though he was not so impressed with the number of errors.

Beautiful

"When we did get it right we did it beautifully," he said. "We played some really good rugby. We can get it right and if we play for 80 minutes we'll take some stopping. "The trouble is other sides keep coming at you. And if you double up on your errors you give momentum to the opposition as we did. "They also had a very good fly-half in Charlie Hodgson who I imagine played exactly the way they had been rehearsing and it worked very well for them." Meehan also heaped praise on home hero Berne, who held his nerve at the death to put his side in front. "Shaun is quite relieved," he said. "He is quite an emotional guy. "He shouldered responsibility for fly-half, captain and goal-kicking.
