Ahead of the 'second-leg' of their PRO14 tie against Glasgow, Edinburgh coach Richard Cockerill says his team deserve great credit for their recent 18-17 win over the Warriors.

Glasgow host Edinburgh in Scotstoun on Saturday, desperate to reverse a result that has been described as "embarrassing" by their coach Dave Rennie.

But Cockerill has hit back at critics saying the one-point win was determined more by his side's performance than that of Glasgow.

"Glasgow was a test for us last week," he said. "We said beforehand that it was the first big test for us for a little while and so, we did pretty well.

"The luck fell our way maybe, but we stayed in the game. We had 14 men but we played some good stuff as well.

"We played ball in hand with 14 men to put them under pressure so we created opportunities for ourselves. We should take great credit for that.

"I don't believe it was all around Glasgow. I think Edinburgh should take credit for how they played and the effort and spirit they played with. Now the challenge for a club that's getting better is - can we back that up?"

Cockerill will be without Simon Berghan who has been suspended for six weeks after he was found to have stamped on the head of Glasgow's Fraser Brown.

Commenting on the ban, the Edinburgh coach said: "The laws are very clear in how they are stated, if your boot makes contact with the head you are liable to get sent off.

"So, it's a fair enough sending off and the entry point is top end which is 12 weeks and 50 per cent mitigation for a good record and how he presented himself and whether you like it or not, it's probably about right."

He added: "That's the challenge isn't it, not to get ahead of ourselves. We were back in on Boxing Day. We had a normal training week and we go to Scotstoun with a bit of confidence because we have been on good form."
