Eddie Jones says England had the 'bounce of the ball' against Australia as they won at Twickenham

Eddie Jones felt England answered their critics and were deserved winners with a 30-6 victory over Australia.

Jones' side followed their scrappy 21-8 win over Argentina with a much-improved display against the Wallabies at Twickenham.

The scoreline did not tell the whole story, with Jonathan Joseph, Jonny May and Danny Care all crossing for late tries, while Australia were left frustrated by a number of refereeing decisions which went against them.

Referee Ben O'Keeffe sent Michael Hooper and Kurtley Beale to the sin-bin and disallowed tries by Hooper and Marika Koroibete for offside, while Elliot Daly's 54th-minute score was allowed following repeated viewings by the TMO.

"Seeing most of the commentary last week was about us going backwards at a rate of knots, not a bad win," England coach Jones said on Sky Sports.

"It was a tough old game, there wasn't much in it. We got the bounce of the ball a few times, but we stuck at it.

"That was a great team effort. We always back ourselves to play out 80 minutes. At half-time we thought we were in a good position. They had a good 20 minutes after half-time, but we came back really well.

"Our finishers did a great job, our scrum was fantastic. A great team effort for us. I think we were deserved winners at the end."

England skipper Dylan Hartley said he was "very proud" of the team's performance.

"The confidence is really growing in the team," he said. "We're still chasing down that No 1 spot."

Australia's captain Michael Hooper, meanwhile, felt the scoreline was harsh on his side.

"It got away from us at the end, we were right in that," he said.
