Glasgow flanker Ryan Wilson has avoided a ban after he was accused of grabbing the testicles of Northampton's Lee Dickson during a Champions Cup match on Sunday.

Wilson was cited after the game but the complaint was dismissed by European officials at a disciplinary hearing in London on Wednesday.

The alleged offence took place in the first-half of Northampton's 19-15 win but Wilson pled not guilty and independent judicial officer Simon Thomas effectively threw out the case.

And the 26-year-old Wilson could therefore come into Scotland contention as the RBS 6 Nations tournament progresses, although he missed out on selection for the initial squad.

A minimum 12-week ban could have been enforced had he been found guilty but he is now free to return to action.

Following the hearing, a statement from European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) read: "As the judicial officer was not satisfied to the required standard that the act of foul play as alleged had been committed, the citing complaint was dismissed and Wilson is therefore free to play."

It was a busy day for the EPCR with Glasgow and Scotland lock Tim Swinson handed a one-week ban for punching Northampton hooker Mikey Haywood in Sunday's match.

Swinson was sin-binned for the incident, and he pled guilty to the offence at Wednesday's disciplinary hearing in London.

Independent judicial officer Simon Thomas deemed the punch worthy of a red card, and imposed a suspension of two weeks, which was then halved due to the guilty plea, Swinson's remorse, and his clean disciplinary record.

Swinson is free to play from Monday January 25, and the 28-year-old is therefore free to play a full part in Scotland's 6 Nations campaign.

T Rhys Thomas of Newport Gwent Dragons has had an allegation of biting dismissed after he was alleged to have bitten Castres flanker Thomas Caballero during the Dragons' 31-18 Challenge Cup victory on Friday.

Independent judicial officer Rod McKenzie dismissed the complaint, leaving Thomas free to return to action.
