Former Super League official Tim Roby has been appointed as an assistant referee in the Australian National Rugby League.

The 26-year-old quit his role with the Rugby Football League in March 2015 to move to Australia after receiving an offer from the NRL, who operate a two-referee system.

After serving his apprenticeship as a touch-judge for more than 12 months, Roby has been promoted as the assistant to referee Matt Cecchin for Sunday's game between Sydney Roosters and St George Illawarra.

Roby has refereed over 75 Super League matches and has been touch judge in two Challenge Cup finals, the 2014 Super League Grand Final as well as the Rugby League World Cup.
