Wakefield's Betfred Super League match against Widnes has been abandoned because of a snowstorm.

The Saturday night fixture only went ahead due to a snow-clearing operation led by Wakefield chairman Michael Carter at the Mobile Rocket Stadium at Belle Vue.

Both teams had difficulty holding onto the ball in the atrocious conditions but Wakefield took the lead with an eighth-minute penalty from scrum-half Liam Finn.

Visibility suddenly deteriorated midway through the first half and, after continuing for a while, referee Liam Moore took the decision after 26 minutes to halt play and take the players from the field.
