New England boss Wayne Bennett will combine his fact-finding trip with a spying mission when he drops into the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday night.

The veteran Australian coach was in Widnes on Thursday night and will then watch the top-four clash between Warrington and Catalans Dragons - live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 7.30pm - before returning to Brisbane in time for the second State of Origin game on Wednesday.

Wolves quartet Ben Currie, Stefan Ratchford, Chris Hill and Daryl Clark, who were among the group of players at an England get-together in Leeds this week, will all get the chance to impress Bennett, who will also be able to cast his eye on up to a dozen Catalans players who could feature for New Zealand in his first game as national coach in October.

Currie has been in impressive form this year but admits he performed below his own high standards during Warrington's 19-12 home defeat by Hull which cost them the chance to return to the top of the table.

They dropped to fourth after other results went against them last weekend but have a chance to redeem themselves and prevent the in-form Dragons going top.

"The big games are coming thick and fast at the moment," Currie said. "I was very disappointed after the game last week. I wasn't a happy guy, it ruined my weekend - you keep replaying it over and over in your head.

"We want to get back on the horse this weekend and we usually bounce back from a game like that. There's probably no better way to do that than against Catalans."

Currie has scored tries in the Wolves' last three meetings with the Catalans, who have not won at the Halliwell Jones Stadium since 2011 but have lost just two of their last 13 league games.

"They've been consistent and they've got a lot of formidable players," said Warrington coach Tony Smith. "Their defence is the second best in the competition and their attack is also second best."

Warrington are boosted by the return of second-rowers Ben Westwood and Jack Hughes as well as wingers Matty Russell and Kevin Penny, with Tom Lineham, Gene Ormsby, George King and Sam Wilde dropping out of the side that lost at home to Hull.

Catalans are without forwards Dave Taylor and Justin Horo, who join former Warrington favourites Louis Anderson and Richie Myler on the injury list. Fringe players Thibaud Margalet and Alrix Da Costa are set to step in and coach Laurent Frayssinous has called up under-19 duo Jordan Dezaria and Arthur Romano, who have yet to play in the Super League.
