Wayne Bennett's whistle-stop tour
England coach Wayne Bennett will take advantage of the Brisbane Broncos having a bye week in the NRL to continue his preparations for the 2016 Four Nations Series.
Bennett will make a whistle-stop tour of the UK including a meeting with the UK-based England players and his assistant coach Denis Betts.
The meeting will be held in Manchester and he is expected to announce plans for the Four Nations games against Australia, New Zealand and Scotland as well as the Test match against France.
The 66-year-old will take the opportunity to watch three First Utility Super League matches during his visit including Widnes' home game against Wigan.
Just the three for Hock
Former England forward Gareth Hock has been found not guilty of making deliberate contact with a match official.
This was one of two counts that he was charged with following Leigh's Kingstone Press Championship match against Swinton last month.
While Hock was cleared of making deliberate contact with a match official he was banned for three matches for punching and ordered to pay a £100 fine.
The 32-year-old's disciplinary record is far from being squeaky clean. He'd been charged with making deliberate contact with referees three times before but this time was acquitted.
The sole charge means that he will be back and available for selection when Leigh face the side that are currently chasing them in the table, London Broncos, on June 26.
Concern for Ronan Costello
Talented academy player Ronan Costello remains in a critical condition in hospital after being injured during an U19 match against Salford.
The Giants confirmed that the match in which the 18-year-old was playing was abandoned on Saturday due to his serious injury and issued their latest update regarding his condition on Monday.
"Huddersfield Giants can confirm in conjunction with the Costello family that Ronan remains in the LGI in a critical condition," said the club statement.
"The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this hugely sensitive time."
Rugby League fans and former and current players across the world have taken to social media to express their messages of support for the academy player and his family at this extremely difficult time.
St Helens' pressure continues
St Helens' 16-33 loss to Catalans in Perpignan was their fourth successive defeat and continues to put pressure on the side.
The Saints were left to rue their poor defence in the latter stages of the game and the result means that they're now six points adrift of Warrington in fourth.
Ahead of the game Keiron Cunningham said that he was determined to prove his critics wrong, some of the club's supporters had expressed their displeasure at a recent home game, and given the result the pressure on him will only intensify.
There's no let up or time to dwell on their recent losses, with a home match against Hull KR on the horizon.
With Hull KR sitting in ninth the opportunity will be there for Cunningham and his side to put a few smiles back on supporters' faces and turnaround their recent run of form.
Origin II arrives in Brisbane
After a bruising first test in the 2016 State of Origin series Laurie Daley and Kevin Walters have announced their squads for Origin II and both coaches have chosen to make just one change to their respective squads.
Nate Myles replaces forward Jacob Lillyman for Queensland and Wade Graham has been named to replace the injured Boyd Cordner for New South Wales.
However, Graham faces an anxious wait to see if he will be available. The prospective Blues debutant was put on report during the Sharks win over the Cowboys on Monday night for a tackle on Johnathan Thurston.
Super 8s to Middle Eight
With their respective table positions Leeds and Huddersfield Giants look to be heading into the middle eight, a far cry from their prospects this time last year.
Although Leeds broke their seven-game losing run with an 8-0 win over Salford in Round 18 their confidence remains fragile and they'll be searching for further victories in the coming matches to regain some form.
Huddersfield's Round 18 outing was marred by injuries to Aaron Murphy and Ryan Hinchcliffe and coach Paul Anderson admits that they're 'seriously down on troops'. The side need to start gaining some men back on the field and quickly to drive their form upwards.
A team that aren't worrying about their form are Leigh who are top of the Kingstone Press Championship and haven't been beaten in 16 matches.
The question lingering is could the Centurions beat Leeds or Huddersfield for a Super League spot? Obviously there's plenty to happen, but it's one to ponder on.
