Jonah Cunningham will get the chance to follow in the footsteps of his father after being promoted to St Helens' Super League squad for 2017.
Cunningham, 17, a hooker like his father Keiron, has been with Saints since he was 14, having joined them from local amateur club Blackbrook.
He is one of seven academy players handed full-time contracts for the senior squad following a successful season with the Under-19s in 2016.
Aaron Smith, Liam Cooper and Ben Morris have also been given 12-month deals, while Josh Eaves and Rob Fairclough have signed two-year contracts, and Matty Lees has signed a long-term deal.
Morris made his international debut for Wales last month, scoring two tries in their World Cup qualifying win over Italy.
Keiron Cunningham said: "All these players played very big roles in the successful Academy Championship winning side last season and we are looking forward to seeing them develop further in the first team system at the club."
