Sky Sports will kick off the new Super League season on 9 February with the meeting of the competition's two most decorated sides, St Helens and Leeds Rhinos.

With 13 titles between them, the pair will be out to make strong start to the season in their bid to dethrone reigning champions Wigan Warriors.

And Sky Sports will show all 12 teams in the first three rounds of the competition.

Three games will be shown exclusively live on the season's opening weekend. In addition to the season opener, Sky Sports will show Super League new boys Leigh Centurions' trip to Castleford Tigers and beaten finalists Warrington Wolves' journey to France to face Catalans Dragons.

In the World Club Challenge, 2016 champions Wigan will look to become the first British team to beat Australian opposition since 2012 when they face NRL winners Cronulla Sharks on February 19.

Week four sees even more marquee matches with a repeat of the 2016 Grand Final between Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors while beaten semi-finalists Hull FC and St Helens also square off under the lights a day later.

Other highlights include Leigh Centurions' first game in the competition at the state of the art Leigh Sports Village when they play Leeds Rhinos in week two, while local rivals, St Helens and Wigan Warriors, will meet on Good Friday.

This season will mark the competition's 20th Grand Final with the finale on 7 October.

Sky Sports Head of Rugby League Neville Smith said: "We can't wait to be at Langtree Park on the opening night of the season for what should be another fantastic year of rugby league on Sky Sports. The struggles of last season's champions Leeds and semi-finalists Huddersfield show the unpredictability of the competition and it's anyone's guess who'll make this year's Grand Final."

Sky Sports Rugby League expert Brian Carney added: "With the champions Wigan promising they can get better and now a new club in Leigh to shake up the competition, I'm confident Sky Sports will bring the most fascinating season we could have wished for. Roll on February 9th."
