      Verdict

A typically competitive race in which Ocean Victory and Blue Spinnaker look among the leading protagonists. Ocean Victory looks a most progressive type from the Jeremy Noseda camp and still looked a couple of pounds ahead of the handicapper at Newmarket when scoring last time out. Blue Spinnaker was impressive at Haydock over a mile and Mick Easterby loves to send out the winners at the Knavesmire. The draw has been unhelpful today and we will reluctantly play against him. Similar comments applying to Unshakable. Lady Bear has gone up the weights since landing a Showcase Handicap at Goodwood and may have preferred a little bit of cut in the ground. Pentecost took a race on the Shergar Cup card last week. He accounted for Calcutta on that occasion but the latter is better drawn and the hustle of the York handicap could reawaken his enthusiasm. Faithful Warrior rarely runs a bad race although the handicapper has had plenty of chance to take a look at him. El Coto has at least being progressive during his three-year-old career and the booking of Kieren Fallon implies that the McMahon team must be fancying their chances of a big run today. We however will stick with his three-year-old compatriot Ocean Victory who would bring a much deserved success for the vastly underrated Jimmy Quinn.
