Verdict

LIMATO veered off to the right in the closing stages of the July Cup at Newmarket but still finished clear of the opposition, including Ballydoyle’s Washington Dc and Profitable, to claim that Group 1 prize. This first attempt at 5f should not be a major obstacle and Henry Candy’s charge is preferred to last year’s winner Mecca's Angel on the likely fast ground. The latter was back to something like her best at the Curragh last time beating Brando and Sole Power, who won this in 2010 and 2014, but would prefer some cut and that may also apply to Profitable. The latter has beaten Mecca's Angel twice this year, including when winning the King’s Stand at Ascot in June with Cotai Glory a neck behind, and will appreciate the return to 5f. Goldream won last year’s King’s Stand and is not out of this if the going remains fast but stablemate Prince Of Lir has something to find with fellow two-year-old Yalta on collateral form. Easton Angel, Muthmir and Take Cover are all course winners but may come up a bit short at this level.
