Verdict

This is a major St Leger trial and four of these have entries in the final classic of the season. Charlie Appleby already has the favourite for that race in New London, who beat Deauville Legend easily in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood. SECRET STATE (NAP) gave weight and a beating to the latter in the King George V Stakes at Ascot and there is no reason why the form should be reversed given the son of Dubawi has since won a hot handicap at Goodwood. Deauville Legend beat the disappointing Walk Of Stars at Newmarket last month but Curragh Group 3 winner Aikhal could be a danger if handling a further step up in trip and French Derby runner-up El Bodegon can’t be ignored.
