In depth

Formwatch

Virgin Soldier (IRE) Good stayer (third in last year's Ebor) but likely to find return to 1m4f on sharp side on reappearance.

Maniatis Well beaten on first run back at Newmarket; lightly-raced and open to improvement.

Cracow (IRE) Course and distance winner here last August; needs to improve on recent outing at Kempton.

Roman King (IRE) Won with plenty in hand at Epsom last month over 1m2f; step up in trip, or 10lb rise not a problem but would prefer softer ground.

Dancing Bay Better form on a softer surface; likes to be held up so track might not suit (normally favours front runners).

Father Juninho (IRE) Improvement needed on form shown at Newmarket on reappearance but stable in better form now; Pat Edderyt booked and stable has had a couple of winners recently.

Nowell House Fit from hurdling when game winner at Newmarket's Craven meeting; faster ground here less than ideal and likely to struggle to confirm superiority over Newmarket rivals.

Batswing Effective on fast ground but better on the soft as when successful in November Handicap last term.

Minivet Useful dual purpose performer at his best; has disappointed over hurdles this season though and probably best watched on return to flat.

Master Cooper (IRE) Formerly trained in Ireland; made a winning reappearance at Newmarket's Guineas meeting and has claims off just 7lb higher mark.

Court Shareef Encouraging effort when third behind Robandela at Newmarket last week; raised just 1lb for that and with ground conditions to suit should again be thereabouts.

Colway Ritz Useful handicapper who will go on the ground; yet to prove he really stays this trip.

Kid'z'play (IRE) Already three times a winner this season; will find this tougher having been raised 21lb since the start of the campaign.

Westgate Run Chances if fit enough for first run of season; has trip and ground conditions to suit.

Kennet No real encouragement from recent form on the all-weather; difficult to fancy.

Middlethorpe Well beaten on reappearance and favours a softer surface.

McGillycuddy Reeks (IRE) Found just Inch Perfect too good last year and 3lb lower today; ran well enough on reappearance to suggest still retains plenty of ability.

Bollin Nellie Trip no problem but would arguably prefer softer ground.

Spring Pursuit In good form but is much better on a soft surface; should find several too quick for him here.

Angus-G Winner of this race in 1997; has not looked as good since and will be a surprise if he is good enough to win first time out.
