    Verdict

EXTRATERRESTRIAL gave the impression that there was more to come when landing a very competitive Newbury handicap last time and he gets the vote here ahead of Yamal, Blythe Knight and Joseph Henry. Paul Hanagan renews his partnership with the selection, and together they had finished runner-up in Doncaster's Spring Mile, before that soft ground Newbury effort. He is used to big fields, races over his optimum trip, and is effective on fast ground, so he gets the nod. Yamal will relish underfoot conditions and has been out of the frame only twice in 10 turf starts, winning four of them. The trip is ideal and with the string going well enough at present he should be thereabouts. Blythe Knight has become a standing dish in races like this during what has been an outstanding career. Twice a Group 3 winner over nine furlongs he races from a decent mark and has a reasonable draw, although there are concerns over the ground. Lang Shining would prefer some cut to be at his best, while Lovelace won't mind conditions but looks in the grip of the handicapper, and the same applies to Furnace. Joseph Henry has gone up 11lbs for a very easy Naas win last month but he will need to be every bit as good as that if he is to remain competitive at this level and he may not represent value, though a good draw is a positive. Wasan sports first-time blinkers and is 6lbs higher than when scoring at Doncaster in September. Both he and Flipando have frame claims, but Extraterrestrial can get home in front.
