The one to mainly catch our eyes here are Marcus Andronicus, Leo, Serevi, Sonny Santino, White Ladder and Royal Punch, with the vote going to Marcus Andronicus. As the two-year-olds take their first step up to six furlongs for the season, this contest should prove informative. There are many well-bred and expensive runners in the field, the most expensive of them being Marcus Andronicus, a $1.5 million son of Danehill. Much as he should stay a good deal further than this in time, his connections would hardly be sending him over unless they felt he was going to run well and, as such, he gets the vote. Of the others, the John Gosden-trained Leo, who is by Pivotal and cost 60,000 guineas, Jeremy Noseda's 90,000 euros purchase, Serevi, Richard Hannon's interestingly-bred Sonny Santino, who cost 55,000 guineas and is related to numerous winners in Italy and Hungary, Paul Cole's White Ladder, a 65,000 guineas son of Marju, and the Tim Easterby-trained Royal Applause filly, Royal Punch, who cost 32,000 guineas, might prove the best of them. That said, keep an eye on the market, but there is no doubt that all eyes will also be on Marcus Andronicus, who gets our vote in this race.
