Verdict

A poor finale can go the way of Alexander Exchange over Starofthemorning, and Trotters Bottom. This very moderate maiden hurdle will not take much winning, and it is hoped that Alexander Exchange will have learnt enough from his lapse at Bangor a fortnight ago to put matters right. The five-year-old was having his first outing for Evan Williams that day after coming over from Ireland, and although looking far from straightforward, had every chance until unseating his pilot at the sixth flight. He would in all probability have had the measure of Starofthemorning who eventually finished third on what was only his second outing for Tony Carroll. The latter will no doubt be the selection's main rival again here, and should they both stay upright, it is hard to see much else getting involved apart from Trotters Bottom, an all-weather winner in the past, who at least got round here in fourth on his timber bow. Bets are best kept to the bare minimum, with Alexander Exchange put up as the likely winner.
