Aureate represents a powerful stable, and he gets the nod ahead of highly tried Beech Games and Roger charlton's pair, Distant Sun and Don't Desert Me. The last-named didn't show much on his debut six days ago, although there were some slight signs of promise after a slow start and he is sure to benefit from that first run and could go a lot closer today. Although yet to have a winner at the track in 2006, Charlton is a top trainer and his newcomer Distant Sun should be monitored closely in the market, especially in relation to his stable companion. Of the rest, Good Effect was making steady headway when hampered last time out and so that run looks worse than it actually was, and he could go well, although his trainer is yet to have a two-year-old winner at the course from 21 attempts. Beech Games has run two fine races at this course, and although he has had enough chances to break his duck, he should be capable of gaining some more place money. However, he is passed over for a win in favour of Mark Johnston's Aureate. This long striding horse can emulate his stablemate Peregrin Falcon who won here on Saturday, and if allowed to bowl along in front, the tactically aware Greg Fairley can continue his fine form of late.
