Kirkstone has been frustrating to follow but can finally get his head in front at the expense of Ganymede, Diafa and newcomer Elated. Kirkstone has been sent off as favourite on each of his last three starts, but has found one too good, and it has to be said that he has not looked that keen to go past and win when asked. However, it is hoped that this step up in distance will prove the answer, and we shall give him one more chance, with Eddie Ahern once again in the plate. This race does not look any harder than the others that he has failed in. Both Ganymede and Diafa have an absence to overcome but both showed bits and pieces of form last season without suggesting that either is worth following, and it could well be the newcomer Elated that proves the biggest stumbling block. His dam is a half-sister to Oratorio, no less, and he would not have to be anything special to take a hand. For the winner we return to Kirkstone.
