        Verdict

        Cape Velvet, Machinate and Fairdonna are the three for the shortlist and the vote is given to Cape Velvet. The selection won a maiden in good style last month over this course and distance when she beat Lascelles. She looks progressive and from a good draw she can go in again. Machinate won well here earlier in the week but that was in a weaker race than this and he will find life tougher today under his penalty. Fairdonna was a little disappointing in a fillies' handicap last time and she is yet to prove her effectiveness over this trip so we are happy to take her on. Pelham Crescent is another who is not racing over his best trip and we will stick with Cape Velevet who can land the prize.
