Two of this quartet are trained by Richard Hannon but Clarendon Cross has gone backwards since a promising reappearance in a Class 2 at Newbury, though his rider’s claim is a plus. EMINENT HIPSTER didn’t beat much here three weeks ago but did so in a hack canter. He’d also run well over course and distance in May and could progress again. Noble Patron doesn’t look straightforward but Sir Edward Elgar will be a threat if handling the switch to Turf.
Eminent Hipster (IRE) 4-1 (9-2) Made all, going nicely over 2f out, pushed along and pressed under 2f out, edged left but pulled length ahead entering final 1f, soon in control and pushed out hands and heels inside final furlong, well on top late on, won at Windsor 1m stks (5) sft in Jul beating Neenee's Choice (9-2) by 2 1/4l, 14 ran.
Sir Edward Elgar (IRE) 9-4 (9-2) Held up in 5th, good headway out wide chasing leaders 3f out, went 2nd over 2f out, ridden to challenge over 1f out, lost 2nd inside final furlong, edged left and one pace in 3rd, 3rd of 7, 1 1/2l behind Colonel Faulkner (9-3) at Lingfield 1m hcp (4) pol in Jul.
Noble Patron (IRE) 7-2 (10-3) Wore hood to post, held up, smooth headway chasing leaders over 2f out, ridden to challenge and hung left inside final furlong, no extra, 3rd of 7, 1 3/4l behind Dashing Dick (9-12) at Yarmouth 7f hcp (4) gf in Jul.
Clarendon Cross 14-1 (9-5) Raced keenly tracking leaders out wide, pushed along over 2f out, ridden and weakened final furlong, 6th of 10, 8l behind Red Mirage (9-11) at Kempton 7f hcp (4) pol in Jun.
