Desert Quest gets a very solid shout here, with L'Oudon and Bishops Bridge possibly rating as his main dangers. The Paul Nicholls-trained selection looks to hold very decent claims in this handicap and looks the stronger Paul Nicholls entry on jockey bookings. A good second to Motorway two runs ago, he followed that up with a good Taunton win. With Motorway having scored off 110 at Newbury at the weekend, Desert Quest has the look of a well-handicapped and improving horse. Nicholls' other runner, L'Oudon is given a chance as he was held in high regard last season and although not building on his Newbury win, he was subsequently tried in much stiffer company and this level will suit better. Bishops Bridge is also on the up, having won his last two, but, much as he is respected, he needs to improve again. Of the others, Foodbroker Founder is surely better than his well-backed run at Windsor might suggest, and The Local, who the handicapper seems to have got just about right, was ahead of him on that occasion, while Barton Park caused a 100/1 shock here last time and, while he has clearly been hiding his light under a bushel, more will be needed today. Finally, Shaman has won from a higher mark, but that was back in January 2004 and he is not one to trust implicitly. All of which returns us to the selection, which is Desert Quest.
