In depth

Verdict

PAIRC NA GCAPALL is selected here ahead of the two course and distance winners Manbow and Canada Street. Despite a couple of jumping errors it was hard not to be impressed by the selections recent win at Huntingdon. There he seemed to relish the quick ground and it may be that a 7lb penalty is not enough to stop him if in the same mood following that first win under rules (dual point-to-point winner). Manbow is now 11 years old but he has not had too much racing. His efforts at the end of last year were not too encouraging but he has run some good races here in the past and is not to be dismissed too readily. Canada Street's recent run behind Flake at Newcastle was not a bad effort but the handicapper has dropped him 3lb. He has won on quick ground before and it would be unwise to rule out this fairly-treated Howard Johnson inmate. Dawn Ride needs to improve now stepped back up in trip, whilst Major Belle looks likely to struggle from a whopping 23lbs out of the weights. This looks a three-horse-race and it is Pairc Na Gcapall who can come out on top.
