Verdict
Synchronised has 16lb more to carry than when successful in this 12 months ago but the top weight may still be improving and will certainly handle the ground, as he proved when given a superb ride by AP McCoy to land the Welsh National at Chepstow on his latest start in December. Halcon Genelardais is another former Welsh National winner facing the starter, while Ballyfitz and LE BEAU BAI filled the minor places behind Silver By Nature in the Grand National Trial at Haydock last month. The latter has 15 lengths to make up on the runner-up and is only fractionally better off at the weights, but was doing his best work at the finish that day and came here at the end of a busy campaign when pulled up in this 12 months ago. Richard Lee's charge is fancied to make amends today though Eider Chase winner Companero can't be ignored and the likes of Triggerman and Bench Warrent could grab a place if their jumping holds up. Tricky Trickster may have targets later in the season, however. and this looks a big ask for novice Alfie Sherrin.
