Verdict

Magnesium is the pick over Haunted House, with Fisby, Celtic Jem and Spanish Tan just three more to note. Magnesium had winning form on the Flat in France, and shaped well on the last of his two outings over timber last spring. Given a run on the level at Epsom in April as well, he was given a summer break before returning with a promising effort at Leicester a fortnight ago. Held up off the pace, he never got the breaks when the odds-on favourite Nous Voila quickened away, but still managed to get within four lengths of him at the finish. That will have blown the cobwebs away and he should go one better here. Haunted House was put in his place by the useful High Day at Uttoxeter, but that was a pleasing debut over timber and he can only get better. Celtic Jem takes a big drop in grade after finishing down the field at Newbury, but even so will still need to step up a gear as will Spanish Tan who has shown little in two starts to date. Magnesium has the potential to go on to better things and is the pick.
