In depth

Formwatch

Miss Fara (FR) Close fourth to Green Card in handicap hurdle over this course in June on last National Hunt outing; has been running well on the Flat this summer, scoring in competitive handicaps at Bath and Kempton Park.

The Bongo Man (IRE) Has been performing reasonably well on Flat and over hurdles in Ireland; last success gained in 2m 4f handicap hurdle at Clonmel in September 2000; first start in UK.

Maximus (IRE) Won two novices' hurdles at Plumpton and Newbury earlier this year; very disappointing on heavy ground when short-priced favourite for hat-trick at Fontwell the following month; first time in a handicap.

Inducement Scored by 8l in Exeter novices' hurdle in April; absent for five months before finishing a creditable 7th in apprentices' handicap at Newmarket earlier this month.

Lorenzino (IRE) Beat Benbyas by a neck in Wetherby novices' hurdle in February and also successful in handicap company at Bangor in May; decent effort when fifth at Uttoxeter this month and seems to be a consistent type.

Mercato (FR) Won handicap hurdles at Fontwell and Market Rasen last March; connections reportedly see him as a potential chaser; lack of a recent run could count against him here.

Marmaduke (IRE) Came home 17l clear in uncompetitive affair at Huntingdon last Friday, but impressed many with his jumping ability then; more to do here, but won on the Flat at Windsor in the summer too and looks an improving type.

Optimistic Chris Beat Aston Mara by 1.5l over this distance at Market Rasen last month, but up in class here.

Straffan Gold (USA) Showed form in modest company in 1998, but virtually no chance in this grade.
