A trappy little contest here and one that can be taken by the in form Penwell Hill. David Barron's four-year-old reeled of a hat-trick over a mile just recently, before just being touched off over today's course and distance last time out, having gone up 22lb in those four runs. His task today is no easier, but he just seems to be enjoying himself that much more than his opponents and that well being can carry him though to victory here. Kanz Wood might be seen as the alternative to the selection, but he does not look open to improvement and though he is ridden by a useful claimer, over this trip he does look vulnerable and is best watched at present. Carlton is another in pretty good nick judged on his 6f win here in January. However, there was little encouragement when he was put in his place by Prima Stella over the same trip here last time and it is anyone's guess as to whether he comes back to himself here. Of the remainder, Resonate is perhaps the most interesting. A soft ground Doncaster winner over this trip in October, he should be at home in the slow conditions and after a couple of runs to put him straight, plus a 15lb drop since his Doncaster success he has been given a chance and could go well.
