The step up in trip looks likely to suit Alexander Gulch but it is still a leap of faith and instead we will side with CAPTAIN IMPERIAL ahead of Kind Heart. Tom Tate's gelding was run off his feet last time out at Chester on ground that was probably too quick for him. Now stepped up in trip, assuming he gets the extra yardage he should run well, as so many of the progeny of Captain Rio have been doing on this surface. Kind Heart steps up in trip and in class as this twice-raced maiden enters the reckoning. Although beaten fair and square last time, the step up in trip is in her favour as she gets plenty of weight from the top two. Alexander Gulch was a good winner at Pontefract when last seen; he has more on his plate today but he is nicely bred and he has a real American dirt pedigree. The other two runners are making up the numbers and so we will return to Captain Imperial for the selection.
