Following the official ratings can be a misleading idea in races of this nature (especially over this distance) and the betting market often provides just as good a guide to the expectations held by the various connections involved - many of whom will have a good handle on today's opposition as they have all been kept busy of late. Therefore, Donegal Shore, who is rated a 10lb better horse than the rest, is reluctantly passed over here as he appears to be struggling to find his ideal trip. In contrast to Lucayan Monarch, whose best efforts have come over this intermediate trip of seven furlongs and he is taken to expand upon the most impressive strike-rate currently held by the Paul Blockley team. A move for Frank's Quest will be interesting as he is very well-in here on the best of his form. He does have a 140-day absence to overcome so a late play is advised if his claims prove to be too tempting. Of the rest: Sudra, Mr Stylish and Tefi are too hard to win with to be seriously considered, so this looks best left to Lucayan Monarch - even though he would not be a maximum stakes play.
