Verdict

TIGER HAWK is better over a mile but might get away with seven furlongs against the opposition on show today, of which Springwell Giant and Taper Jean Girl are the only ones likely to pose a problem. David Evans' colt has won two course sellers to go with the claimer he took on Sunday. That comprehensive victory showed once more that he loves it here and such was his dominance that he'd have won had the race been over a furlong further or, as is the case here, a furlong less. He arrives as a course winner, on the back of a win and from a yard in form so pretty much selects himself. If there is to be an upset then perhaps Springwell Giant would be the one to provide it. Alan McCabe's gelding placed in a couple of sellers last year and the trip looks fine, but overall the form he's showed in four starts is modest and although the ratings have him clear, we're far from convinced that will be the case. Taper Jean Girl would have strong claims on the form she showed for Marco Botti, but since switching to Ruth Carr she's not showed much although her third last time was more like it. She's won over course and distance but has plenty to prove at present. Alotago has had just four starts with little promise offered, but she's bred to go on this surface and that alone might bring about some improvement and a market check is advised, whilst Chris Catlin's assistance aboard Nidamar still won't be enough for her to get close on what we've seen. In a race that will take little winning Tiger Hawk is confident selected.
