Not a race to get heavily involved with and BRIGHT SPARKY gets the vote to have the measure of Jackie Kiely. The Mick Easterby-trained selection is 1lb lower than the mark from which he won a course and distance handicap this time last year, his sole success on the level. He arrives here having been kept fit from a busy enough winter campaign and in putting up Serena Brotherton in this sort of contest, the trainer is perhaps suggesting that today will be the day, so we will side with him. Jackie Kiely has been far more successful here, winning eight times, mostly recent over this trip. He is 18lbs lower than that win, which came over two years ago, but there has been at least some encouragement from recent runs and he can show up very well at this level. Nawamees is another plummeting in the weights in recent times. He goes well here, although his best form has been in sellers and claimers. Bansha could improve for a slight drop in trip and a recent pipe-opener after a lengthy absence, while the trip will suit Jiggalong, who is well-handicapped judged on her Kempton win in December, although has to prove herself on this surface. It's been a long time between drinks for Cragganmore Creek, who is the sole competitor boasting a course and distance success, and if able to reproduce anything like his old form he would have a chance from a mark of 45, but in a poor race Bright Sparky is the pick.
