        Verdict

        A tricky contest as the two with the best recent form have a bit to prove on Fibresand. Duke Of Rainford won at Newcastle recently but his previous efforts at this track don't fill one with confidence, while Novalist scored at Redcar in June but has yet to race on this surface. A chance is taken on SHAKESPEARES EXCEL, who went close over C&D back in April and is only 1lb higher today. Pickled Pumpkin was beaten too far when third here last time to be a strong fancy, while C&D winner Egyptian Lord remains out of sorts.
