Verdict

Dan Skelton has a 50 per cent strike rate here with his hurdlers so Air Glider has to go on the short-list for this opener. A winning pointer, he's been placed in three of his five hurdle starts but has been racing over further and there is a question mark over quicker conditions. Donald McCain has won this for the past two years but Astrum will be having his 16th start over timber and the grey is likely to find at least one too good again. CARTHAGE won over 1m4f on the Flat on fast ground a year ago and has shown enough over hurdles to suggest a race like this should be within his range. Furiously Fast was a maiden on the level but did hint at ability and could reach the frame if his jumping holds up.
