Kendancer isn’t penalised for winning a Ballinrobe maiden in August but has been beaten twice since, including when only fourth here last time, and faces a couple of potentially more progressive rivals. Though a maiden on the Flat, SPIRITOFTHENORTH often ran well and didn’t do a lot wrong on his hurdles bow here when runner-up to Punxsutawney Phil, who subsequently finished fourth in a decent handicap at Cheltenham.
