This is a fascinating contest and we will take a chance on FARNE ISLAND who can get the better of both Stagecoach Pearl and Kayf Commander. Trainer Mickey Hammond has his string in fair form at present and although his 6-year-old Farne Island has yet to win over hurdles, he has gone close twice. He ran quite well last time considering he got worked up before the off, and if there is no repeat in the preliminaries here then he might be capable of taking his chance. Stagecoach Pearl has been placed in three of his four starts over hurdles so he merits obvious consideration. He did disappoint last time but the soft ground may have been an excuse and under these more suitable conditions he might be capable of bouncing back to form. Kayf Commander has been in the prize money three times in six starts over hurdles and the tongue-tie which seemed to have a positive effect last time is again applied today. Whaston won a handicap at Ayr two runs ago on the flat and it will be interesting to see how he fares today on his hurdling bow. This is an open event and harrow preference is for Farne Island.
