The big yards tend to dominate this maiden and it usually goes to a fancied runner with none of the last seven winners starting bigger than 4/1, though the betting may be a bit more open this time. Connections of High Shields, Regicide and Plenary will be looking for good runs from Graceful James, City Of Ideas and Combative respectively earlier on the card to boost their charges' claims. It's unusual to see an unraced Sir Michael Stoute four-year-old still in training so Profusion, a half-brother to a couple of winners, is worth a market check while it's also worth noting the Authorized colt Mormill. But SHABEEB is probably Roger Varian's best hope and this beautifully-bred son of Smart Strike probably wouldn't need to improve much on a promising sixth behind Midterm at Newbury to get off the mark.
