      Verdict

      Neither California Lad nor Harlequin Rock showed enough on debut to suggest a win was imminent so this will probably go to one of the newcomers. Montsarrat is a rare two-year-old runner here for Mark Johnston but Richard Hannon appears to hold all the aces. His HAIRDRYER is closely related to the stable's useful miler Emell and he's preferred to In The Red, whose half-brother won over this trip as a juvenile. Knight Commander may be the pick of the remainder.
