In depth

Verdict

A cracking event with the evergreen Persian Punch bidding for his 15th win. He has looked some way below his best of late, but was still good enough to beat Warrsan, in the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer at Newbury. He has nothing to fear from the latter, but using Warrsan as a guide, he has plenty to fear from Harlestone Grey, who ran no sort of race in the Tote Ebor. John Dunlop's charge had earlier lost out in a photo to Warrsan, giving him 8lb, so recieving weight from both the top pair, he must take all the beating, if back to his best. Hirapour has plenty to find on official ratings as does the once raced Talk To Mojo, but it would be folly to underestimate the latter.
