Van Gerwen was a winner here in May and also at Pontefract in July but this might be a too competitive for Paul Midgley’s eight-year-old and stablemates Nibras Again and James Watt make more appeal at the weights. First-time blinkers could inspire Machree to put his best foot forward but he has the outside draw whereas MARK’S CHOICE (NAP) starts up against the stands rail. The latter races mostly over 6f nowadays but loves it here and won the Great St Wilfrid consolation at the track last month. He shouldn’t be far away if able to lay up with the early pace. Victory Angel is respected and Roydmoor has scope for further improvement now he’s got his head in front.
