In depth

Verdict

A dual winner at Southwell, MR EXCELLENCY makes his handicap debut in a bid to remain unbeaten. He may well succeed with Mark Johnston’s yard remaining in fine form and most of today’s opposition returning from lay-offs. That includes 7f winner Freak Out, who has switched yards since and is 10lb higher for this, while Tahonta won over 6f back in October. It was heavy going when First Greyed scored at Haydock while the latter’s new stablemate A Boy Named Ivy placed at Ayr and Surprise Picture went close at Kempton. Master Zoffany is not out of this either back on a faster surface today.
