Make Haste is a speculative selection to get the better of Campbells Lad and Simply St Lucia, while Patavium looks the best option for the Tuer family to strike for each-way money (trainer Edwin Tuer's son, Grant, also sends out the top weighted Ninetyninetreble.) Patavium has been consistent at a modest level and would not need to find much to at least make the frame. However, he has a bit to find with Simply St Lucia, who in turn is only of modest ability under both codes. Still, she has given her connections plenty of fun during the last couple of seasons and having scored at Hamilton a fortnight ago, she should again make a bold bid from just a 2lb higher mark. Campbells Lad was a surprise winner of a claimer at Catterick and has been clobbered with a 16lb rise as a result. Obviously he needs to prove that was not just a flash in the pan but his odds may tempting enough for a small stakes play. However, Roger Charlton seems to be turning the corner with his string just now and, as Make Haste - a nicely-bred individual - makes his handicap debut in such modest company, he would be very dangerous to underestimate today.
