Verdict

Sam's Secret was caught close home over York's six furlongs on her debut so Jeremy Glover's filly should be ideally suited over today's stiff five and is preferred to Open Verdict and Cesar Manrique. The last mentioned has a bit to find with Alan Berry's Alexia Rose on running over course and distance last week but the Barry Hills-trained colt had little luck in running that day and is expected to reverse that form. However, the fast ground may not be in his favour and a bigger threat may come from the Alan Jarvis-trained Open Verdict for who the booking of Kieren Fallon takes the eye. Being by the mudlark Tomba, Aynsley would probably want a softer surface and of more interest may be Henry Candy's newcomer Seamus Shindig, particularly if the market speaks in his favour. Sam's Secret has an obvious chance on the evidence of his York run though and is hard to oppose.
