PETE is given the vote ahead of Be Smart and Crackerjack Lad in a contest lacking in depth. Irish raider Be Smart was an unconsidered outsider on his debut in this country recently, but ran well, hitting the frame. He was fast enough to win on the Flat, and he looks capable of playing a part here if reproducing that effort. Crackerjack Lad won a bumper on debut but had been a disappointment in a light campaign before finishing runner up at Kelso on his latest start. There was only a small field that day however, and it didn't look the most competitive of races. Pete failed in a hat trick bid last time, but that run probably came a bit quick after a success over this course and distance. Given a fortnight off, Pete is only 5lbs higher here and can bounce back to winning form.
