Madam Mai Tai, much improved when scoring at Ayr, could well improve again despite being 1lb out of the handicap although this looks a tougher contest. Bonhomie may be popular but has looked a little short of pace to date whereas WAKAME has been knocking on the door very loudly this term. Ed De Giles's gelding has twice been thwarted in photo finishes in his last three starts but hopefully the in-form Jim Crowley can steer him home here despite a 3lb rise for a short head defeat at Chepstow. Brian Ellison's ability to work the oracle when taking on inmates from other stables is well documented and Mister Royal is the latest to benefit from the skills of the Norton handler. A significant drop in trip worked wonders for the gelding at Catterick and he looks a major danger to our selection despite his mandatory 6lb penalty.
